This past week, the Beyerlein group celebrated the successful dissertation defenses of three of its members. Ian Wise and Anderson Nascimento both defended on September 1, 2026, followed shortly by Justine Schulte on September 9, 2026.

Ian earned his PhD in Materials with a defense titled "A mesoscale investigation of dislocation cross slip in face-centered cubic metals." Anderson defended his PhD in Mechanical Engineering with a dissertation titled "Thermomechanical Development of Dislocation Density and Residual Micromechanical Fields in Additively Manufactured Superalloys." Justine earned her PhD in Materials with a defense titled "Multimodal Study of the Slip Activity and Intragranular Orientation Evolution in Polycrystalline Ni-based Superalloy, IN718."

The whole group congratulates Ian, Anderson, and Justine on this tremendous accomplishment and wishes them the very best in their next chapters!
